Mark Stuewe Retires

Effective March 31st Mark Stuewe retired from Walsh Duffield after managing the Don Allen Agency for more than 27 years. Mark joined Don Allen in 1990 and helped direct the agency through a period of continued growth including numerous agency acquisitions in greater Rochester.  Mark & his wife Joanne are excited for this new chapter and already have plans to do some traveling this spring.

“Mark played a pivotal role in Walsh Duffield's purchase of the Don Allen Agency in May 2016. We owe a debt of gratitude for Mark's stewardship and wish him and Joanne our best wishes in their retirement," said Barney Walsh, who worked closely with Mark during the agency acquisition.

We asked Mark to share some of the wisdom that has helped make his career a success, and he expressed three key takeaways from his time at the Don Allen Agency:

1. Building consensus takes time, but the outcome is certainly worth the effort.
2. An executive’s function is to make reasoned exceptions to established rules.
3. Surround yourself with the most talented people you can find and give them the authority to do their jobs.

Mark notes that he was very fortunate throughout the years to have a great management team that bought into and supported the agency’s objectives.

Mark’s hard work and service to our agency will be missed.  Arthur Fitelson, Vice Chairman of the Don Allen Agency notes, “Mark has always been a man of few words, but always got the job done. He has been a very good friend, and we always spoke of good food, and where to get it.  I hope he enjoys many more great meals in his retirement and his travels.”

Congratulations and best wishes Mark!
